we intend to approach religion with our son.

Me and the FiL were adamant that we should tread very carefully when it comes to exposing him to anything that may leave an impression on him that could nudge him towards being a religouser. My girlfriend is less bothered and thinks he should be left to work it all out for himself :rubchin:

The one big issue is that we've had to send her to a CofE school. Luckily CofE is, at best, a diet religion and she's already been in trouble for proselytising atheism to her classmates.

wonderful Christian syllogism which shows us that Christianity truly is the religion of freedom (and this, paradoxically, is precisely from an atheist point of view).

I've been accused of too much word****ery in the past, so I will refrain from en exegesis

Would you, for example, let her go round and participate in a Muslim prayer evening at a friend's house whose family were rumoured to have fundamentalist beliefs?

I assume you mean I should also make it clear that my opinion should not necessarily be his (which I intend to do).

Also, it depends on their age. If at 6 years old believes in God I will likely approach the issue in a very different way to if he was 16.

I'd be more worried if she was protesting abortion clinics with christian nut jobs tbh

And, conveniently, the go to scripture for todays christian fundamentalist nut job.

Also, God comes off as a bit of a c**t in the Abraham story.

If he's intelligent, he'll work it out for himself.

Also, youthful belief in god avoids those awkward early discussions about death, eternity, etc.

of the Book of Job. It's a beautiful dialectical movement from our usual perception of God as some kind of higher force, structure, meaning which guarantees that everything serves a purpose, to an impotent God whose divine gift precisely is radical freedom from that conception, i.e. humanity - by what we are freely doing, - decides the faith of a God who has messed up his creation.
