studying Humanities and the Arts at uni if they want to maximise their chances of getting a job afterwards.

She's correct, isn't she?

humanities graduates out there, so it's hardly a fast track to the dole queue to do an arts degree. On the other hand, we do have a massive skills gap in STEM subjects, so she's right to encourage people to follow that path if they can. However, there is f**k all point in people pursuing sciences if they're not much good at them. You can't fit square pegs into round holes just because it makes the government's figures look better.

there just won't be enough to realistically go to everyone who graduates, as you say

A cousin of mine moans that he has loads of debt from uni from studying a Hotel Management course. He had hundreds of kids on his course. It was obvious before he started the course that there wouldn't be enough hotels looking for managers for them all to get a relevant job in the field, but he was still surprised at the end of it

is what she should have said...

After all, a qualification in hotel management is great if all you ever want to do is manage a hotel, but f**k all use for anything else. On the other hand, an arts degree - whilst sometimes airy-fairy - does allow you to keep your options open to some extent. You can always go on and get vocational training afterwards if there's something you really want to do. However, many such vocational training schemes won't let you in the door without a degree.

Much cheaper than an actual arts degree and just about as much f**king use

I'd like to see them sprayed with a permanent dye when they are protesting. Then we can pick them off at leisure. Shooting them would do.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

You wouldn't because these things are wrong. Wasting years of your life titting about at the public expense is wrong.

In which case they don't have to pay the 'debt', do they?

Never mind, I'll pay for your nancy boy chums to avoid washing, attend demos and GENERALLY WASTE THEIR f**kING TIME.

What you mean is, you prefer to decide what is right and what it wrong according to what suits you at the time.

It's all about context, see?

The cost is ridiculous for a decent degree so a lot are just going for ones they can barely afford, unless mama and papaaaaah can pay for them of course.

Or, if you're american, moral relativism

Berni

application of moral absolutes is both unhelpful and ultimately meaningless.

Repayments begin at a salary of 17k, at which point you repay 1 pound per month. 1 pound.

At 30k you repay 98 pounds per month. Less than 100 pounds per month.

Are you saying a person earning just over 9 quid an hour should repay more, even if they are earning what is actually below the london living wage?

I'm not sure that would go a long way to encouraging economic activity, is that what you and your socialist chums want, eh?

who then go on to invent stuff that keeps you alive longer or lets you go faster or have endless access to porn or whatever. They in turn then go on to pay for the next generation, etc, etc.

It's a virtuous circle or summink.

It's more alarming when they get alumni on and you realise how ignorant people are. Like with Only Connect last night. People like Professor Steve Jones, Robert Peston and Patrick Marber are supposed to be intelligent, ffs! c**ts couldn't think their way out of a paper bag.
