We need to bear in mind that Arteta is not far off 33 years old and is evidenced by the fact that he seems to have lost a bit of pace and strength. Flamini is a headcase and useless but acceptable backup.

If you look at the big teams in Europe, they all have a strong, fast player in the middle, used to disrupt opposition attacks. Whereas with us, the opposition seem to waltz through without anyone making much of an effort to stop them.
