View Full Version : Modern music really is mostly a load of vacuous, uncreative, asinine garbage..

Perhaps its all been done before, which makes it all the harder to create.
Oh, and f**k me, how could that eighties list, littered with waspish white boy music, pouring from thin reedy guitars from Friday pass without a single nod to Bobby Womack's -The Poet from 1981 .. Criminal :-(

I take your point, there's always been some terrible stuff around but the sheer size of todays back catalogue presents a treasure trove of opportunity for a quick buck.

You have your music. You had all the great music you were ever going to own by the time you were 25.

Modern music is for young people. Now it may well be true that the youth of today is permanently infantilised, feckless and vacuous and therefore has the music it so richly deserves, but it's no business of yours.

I was largely commentating on the stuff that does get aired and is pretty unavoidable, well, certainly to those of us with kids..

atm and now the kids have left home don't watch the guff on TV (except when the wife for some unbeknownst reason decides to turn it on :-)
Yet I still find new modern music which I rate nearly on a daily basis thanks to t'internet & Radio 6  Still go to gigs on a regular basis. All this will carry on until they chuck me into the incinerator hopefully.

But then again it is free so you download it, try it and if it turns out to be ****e you simply delete the f**ker.

Every now and then you get one worth keeping.

Novelty is a snare and a delusion. After a while, a chap should simply know what he likes and enjoy it.

Music all over the house and all controlled via an app on your tablet or phone.
Deezer or Spotify for around a tenner a month and don't say it too loudly but your downloads and collections are a thing of the past, although that's still a bit of an alien concept for the old farts.
Apple revenues are set to take a hammering on itunes, so they'll be rushing out their Beats streaming service asap.

Cyrus 8 with Arcam airDAC, as I don't use CDs any more.

Your talk of Spotify intrigues me.

but they're largely single units. I have one in the lounge and its been great,. It works via airplay and even has bluetooth connectivity but that's fairly limited.

Wireless multi room is connectivity all over the house, you literally control each zone individually. You could sync up around 8 speakers, including a TV Soundbar and Sub and control teh lot all via an app.

Streaming services like Pandora in the US and Spotify in Europe are now beginning to take over the way music is accessed.

Give it 5 years and downloading will largely be a thing of the past

Although of course, like any compression, the sound is only as good as the file being played....not that it makes a difference to my deaf ears.
