I'm considering the addition of some crumbled black pudding, for richness.

I take it you don't subscribe to Ramsay's 'half a bottle of Lea & Perrins' way of doing things? It's actually rather good.

Your glw's forever making you do English food, isn't she?

I usually put a good splash of Worcester in - does Gordo go large?

She is. She's mad for English 'food' :-(

I've discovered this rather wonderful Polish smoked pork belly stuff recently. Does wonderfully for pancetta-type lardons and is about a third of the price. You can get it in Tesco. I'll say this for the Poles: they've definitely improved the standard of Charcuterie and pickles you can buy in this country.

Felt the chill last night,so did some pork fillet with mushrooms, brandy and cream with baked potatoes. Piece of piss and very nice.

If I made a exception for black pudding it would open the door to all sorts of other Irish goods, like, erm, Guinness. And, erm...

As you were.

It also includes things like 'Irish' tea and some 'Irish' biscuits. That's about it, though. I smile at it whenever I pass it.

I remember the large, floury potatoes that used to accompany every meal, regardless of its provenance. It wasn't that long ago.

Mind when I was a kid I used to like raspberry jam & salt & vinegar chipstick sandwiches.

The whole essence of the bar was the common knowledge that for years and years kids and indeed adults had simply eaten the two together anyway. I quite like a snickers with my crisps but then I have travelled and lived abroad, my tastes and outlook is more European, cosmopolitan if you will.

Crisps are the main course. Chocolate is clearly the dessert.

Sweet and salty, a combination used the world over for food creation. Ours is simply a more basic, rustic to use a television food programming terminology, take on this.

Salted caramel eh, what is that if not a bar of chocolate and a mouthful of salt & vinegar in one go.

I urge you to try it and return with your eyes opened.
