Whilst one would prefer to travel in state, I thought it would make more sense to be able to see something.

It's wild and woolly country up there. Best be prepared.

You're taking a firearm, of course?

“Worse service impossible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2013 via mobile

A hotel where all efforts solely went into a modern design thus forgetting about all other important factors. In my life have I had worse service than here. Not one day where they capable of taking your order or cleaning the mess round the pools, empty coconuts covered with all sorts of insects. There are so many things that I... More

“Poor management and aging assets. You have better place to go”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2013

Reasonable size asset. Hotel staff are amateur and lack training. Changed room 3 times. From broken air con to flooded bath room. Definite 1st and last stay. No presence of hotel management. When technician was sent to fix the air con. He climbed to the compressor 5m from ground without any safety gears. Neither the guest service or the engineering... More

Somewhere preferably with a village near by so the lady and I can get pissed in a pub full of locals. I've got as far as thinking about Babbington House and that's about it.

*As good as can be. I also won't be taking any of your advice Richerally.

I don't really know about holidays in the UK, I'm afraid.

Mind you, I'll know better after next week. Try the Lake District, that's what I'm doing.

Hills? Go north, or to Wales. Flatness? Stay south. Incest, Devon & Cornwall. Canals? Go east.

If you want a selection of pubs, something decent but not to taxing to do and a nice cosy cabin you can get some decent canal boats on the broads. Also, you park directly outside whichever pubs you like and can escape, albeit rather slowly, when you want.

I will rise above your rudeness and accept that Galway is unlikely to happen.

I could suggest Charlton House in Shepton Mallet, a lovely establishment I stayed in a few years back for a wedding. Michelin starred restaurant I think (could be wrong), 1 minute walk to the local village pub and a Mulberry discount outlet for Mrs Jake to spend loads of money and still make a saving.

Wasn't my wedding, my Mrs was one of the bridesmaids which to be blunt resulted in me stood alone for long periods which in turn resulted in me being (by far) the drunkest man in Shepton Mallet that day and evening.

I nipped down the local for a few hours during the really boring part of the day to re-appear later as a man on a whole different level to the rest.

It wasn't a nice affair at all.

There was a further reception the next day in Surrey, a black tie affair. I refused to go as I don't do fancy dress for any c**t.

Didn't go down well with the wife given the married woman was her best mate. f**k them.

Had I stayed there for just a nice weekend with the Mrs then I imagine I would have been very romantic, scaling the exterior wall ivy to the room with a box of Black Magic etc.

Unfortunately this was like a mass gathering of c**ts, a mixture of South Wales and affluent Surrey people.

And me.

Good thing about the Cotswolds is that it isn't very far so you don't spend half your long weekend just driving there and back.

walls to keep the dangerous loonies in.

Stayed in a charming pub with some interestingly themed bedrooms and drank a local cider which gave me a thunder**** of a heartburn.
