I also need to work on the stamina as playing punk style stuff kills my hands after a while.

A track, a band, a drum machine or a metronome even. Learning to listen to the rhythm section is what too many guitarists ignore imo. Especially some lead guitarists who are so far up their own arses they have no idea what the rest of the band is playing, or why their own performances are basically irrelevant.

They're like the kid who is all flashy with the ball but can't pick out a pass to a team-mate and ends up losing it.

When you can both feel a rhythm and understand it then you have far more in reserve for holding tempo, hearing how what you're playing fits with the rest of the band and throwing in some variations. Breaking rhythms down into 16ths or triplets (depending on the feel) really helps nail it.
