This is a man who is as Yorkshire as you can get, he's as Yorkshire as the rest of Yorkshire put together. As this clip, filmed yesterday in Leeds' glamorous Queens Hotel, proves.

Paul Heaton btw is a scouser if we're talking in terms of where a person being born equates to where they were from.

nationality. And, actually, neither does the nationality of one of your parents. He has spent the vast majority of his life here, been educated here, grown up here, made his adult career here and proudly considers himself English. What more do you want?

There are millions of people in this country with similar stories. They are simply British, but of foreign extraction. Those foreign origins don't make them any less English, though. Equally, there are people who were born here who don't consider themselves English and that's their right as well. Your absurdly narrow definition of what defines someone's nationality marks you out as lacking in imagination at best and racist at worst.

In the long run though, whatever accent they have (apart from Black Country, Belfast or Glasgow) it's better than the awful estuary english

You are aware that there are millions of people in this country who proudly define themselves as British or English who don't meet your criteria, aren't you? My parents don't come from England, either. However, they wouldn't for a minute consider themselves to be anything other than British for all that they cheerfully acknowledge their Irish heritage.

What I'm saying is that questions of nationality and national identity are vastly - VASTLY - more complex than you seem to think. The fact that you choose to exclude people from your nationality on such flimsy grounds is bizarre and slightly worrying, but ultimately meaningless since they get to define their nationality, not you.

Suffice to say I would very much enjoy watching you explain what nationality he is to Nasser Hussein, for instance. :hehe:

Oh, and since you're doing insults, stop being so unbelievably f**king obtuse.

However, he was born in Madras (as was) to an Indian father and English mother, came here when he was eight and went on to captain England.

This life history has brought Pokster to the bizarre conclusion that he is Indian, which I suspect would come as news to Mr Hussein.

So I was never really famailiar with Hussein the player, though I was aware when he was captain of England when he was.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
10-03-2014, 01:39 PM
f**k him.

Berni
10-03-2014, 01:42 PM
The fact is I don't believe you would question his nationality for a second if he were white, had an English sounding name and spoke with the same accent that Hussein does. So I can only conclude that it must be the fact that he's called Nasser Hussein and looks the way he does that makes the difference.

Pokster
10-03-2014, 01:44 PM
you are talking crap, but if it makes you feel better then carry on

Berni
10-03-2014, 01:48 PM
Frankly, if you can't see how narrow, small-minded, outmoded, parochial and just plain thick your views on this matter are, I pity you.

Pokster
10-03-2014, 01:50 PM
so I think that you are being narrow minded by accusing someone of being racist because they don't have the same thoughts as you, it shopws what an arrogant prick you can be sometimes

Berni
10-03-2014, 01:59 PM
There are umpteen guys who've played for England whose true national identity or allegiances could legitimately be questioned, but Hussein isn't one of them. Neither I nor anyone who has ever played with him, worked with him or known him has as far as I know ever suggested he is anything other than completely English.

But, rather than choose one of the white guys with Australian, South African or New Zealand accents, you went for him. That tells me all I needed to know.

Pokster
10-03-2014, 02:01 PM
so stop assuming what people mean from what they type when there is no evidence at all and grow up

Berni
10-03-2014, 02:05 PM
And on the basis of those assumptions choose to call me names. So why does it work one way for you and one way for me? Hmmmm?
