He really is the most cringeworthy c**t to watch , isn't he ?
Where did he learn to enunciate in that way. Was he brought up watching a glut of pre war newsreels ?

You should feel honoured just to be alive at the same time as him.

realise there is political expediency in letting it back out again. As a result, he sounds a bit constipated, as though he has to think about how he speaks.

He actually sounds very good when his tone is low and modulated, but when he orates, he gets rather nasal and screechy.

a great Englishman too. But the greatest living Englishman - I'm not so sure.

What about David Gower?

all their scruples about denigrating the sexuality of others in order to do so.

Personally, I have no idea what Mr Hague does or doesn't get up to in private and wonder what business it is of anyone else's.

Portillo, who incidentally I like immensely now he's doing those rail programs, has been a committed puddle jumper for ever and he's never got one bit of stick.

orientation is? That he doesn't love and care for his wife? You are simply engaging in the sort of nasty, snide, prurient speculation about something that is none of your business and has absolutely no bearing on Hague's qualities as a man or a politician.

Oh, and don't tell me Portillo's never had any stick about his sexuality. It was a regular stick with which he was snidely beaten back when he was still in politics - all that nudge-nudge talk about his time at Peterhouse, etc.

Hague's reputation suffered further damage towards the end of his leadership, with a 2001 poll for the Daily Telegraph finding that 66% of voters considered him to be "a bit of a wally" and 70% of voters believed he would "say almost anything to win votes".

"bit of a wally " > Broadsheet euphemism at it's best :-)

I don't think Willie's closetedness is the only example of his mendacity though, his accent and his Hovis music soundtracked childhood stories are also evidence of a worryingly Walter Mitty personality.

trophies but didn't really contribute much to them* - Robin Smith, Malcolm Marshall, Shaun Udal, these are real Hampshire heroes

* the finals I mean - I think he scores a fair few runs in the Championship

His average in county cricket for most of his career wouldn't have got him picked for England in a million years.

to have an average that low, would you? For instance, Boycs' average in First Class Cricket was nearly ten more than in tests.
