Some of my personal faves:

"His sister Kit served in the Western Desert Campaign and won the Croix de guerre while serving with the Hadfield-Spears Unit." *My italics*

"When the Germans started using tanks to cross the bridge, Digby led a bayonet charge against them wearing a bowler hat."

"He later disabled a German armoured car with his umbrella, incapacitating the driver by shoving the umbrella through the car's observational slit"

"Digby then noticed the Padre pinned down by enemy fire while trying to cross the street to get to injured soldiers. Digby got to him and said "Don't worry about the bullets, I've got an umbrella". He then escorted the padre across the street under his umbrella. When he returned to the front line, one of his fellow officers said about his umbrella that "that thing won't do you any good", to which Digby replied "Oh my goodness Pat, but what if it rains?"

Most amusing, but clearly the man was dangerously unhinged.

surrender was a composite of him and another chap whose name escapes me.

Johnny Frost is also well worth reading up on; he had quite the career. When acting as advisor to the film he objected heartily to a scene where he was portrayed running between fascines under the bridge, dodging for cover en route, saying, "One never did that. One strolled out openly in order to display one's contempt for the enemy."

had these chaps been a bit more grounded and a bit less insouciant, the thing might have been better run.

I wouldn't even know where to start on that, to be honest, except to say that the failure of the operation had nothing whatsoever to do with the conduct of the officers and men of 2 Para, whose gallantry and professionalism in taking the bridge with a third of their planned numbers, and holding it for 4 days instead of the expected 24 hours, despite the presence of ll Panzer Korps is unsurpassed in the history of the British army.

I can only point you in this direction, just to make a start:

better is quite an important thing imo. It's egalitarianism, not socialism.

That's the arrogance of the socialist demonstrated rather nicely.
