Actually, maybe I could if I read up on it and tried to exercise my mind a bit.

In a similar manner, maybe you could understand AW's surprise if you investigate what could be the source of said surprise.
Maybe he genuinely believed his team was good enough to win.
Maybe he thought Southampton were utter ****.
Maybe he has a condition that causes him to be surprised at things which generally aren't all that surprising.
Maybe he was lying and wasn't really surprised.
Maybe he wanted to project a certain narrative to the fans, players, or media in order to fit some kind of personal agenda.
Maybe he really has gone senile.
Maybe he did it just to piss you off.

Of course that was this summer, and it may have gone wildly out of fashion since then (as those things seem to do).

Baudrillard wrote wonderfully about fashion is 'Symbolic Exchange and Death', but that would probably be far too postmodern and anti-capitalist for your sensibilites.

I would imagine he also has a collection of Hawaiian shirts for when it's time to party.

A year ago he was the bad guy, now we are taking out his enemy.

Shows the dangers of presuming that if you make nice, they will be nice back. Obama isn't serious about this, though, it's just something he's doing because the mid-term elections are coming up and he's plummeting in the polls. It's why he's decided to go it alone and not ask Congress for approval. The vetting involved in that process would show how inept his 'plan' is. Remember he didn't have one a month ago, by his own admission.

So here we go, shipping off arms that eventually will be used against us at some point. Leaving Iraq was the critical mistake.
