It used to be f**king irritating having to keep separate stashes of Belgian and French francs, guilders, Marks, pesetas, lira, escudos and ****. The euro has at least simplified life for the traveller.

I think they've achieved plenty tbf, you just need to look at the amount of state money pouring into the bank accounts of their friends and donors or the sheer amount of russians we've invited over here with the notion we ask nearly no questions about their money.
