Of course, you may be referring to 'Glory Days', the single from the 'Born In The USA' album, across which many aficionados prefer to draw a veil.

However, my trip to Brighton to see The Boss happened in the spring of 1981. It was a life-altering experience.

Stephen also had some robust views on wordplay, I believe.

Still, I won't let it give me Restless Nights.

I'm on Fire imo :-)

Though I am guessing Born to Run and Darkness on the edge etc both come from this era.

Sadly my lack of knoweldge of and general exposure to his work means I cannot annoy you further with pun based replies.

Got a card from him a couple of months after I met him, lovely chap.

Born In The USA was released as a pop record as a thank you to CBS. :-(

Happy birthday, old chap.

Thanks all the same, I thought you'd introduce my boss based clanger.

Also, I was 8 at the time so I thought that was a nice touch.

Once you're older than every arsenal player you're basically f**ked

I'm still hoping Brad Friedel gets a game for Spurs at one point so at least one Premiership player is older than me

Garry Alan Monk, Date of birth: 6 March 1979 (age 35)

Still, at least my name isn't a euphemism for semen

Sod The Boss

I'm talking about the poppy style of the production of the album. He gave in to CBS and gave them a record that would sell millions.

Peter

Which explains not only the production but the style of writing, empasising broader, more generic themes that are less personal in style.

Bobby jean, no surrender, glory days- far more accessible than a thunder road or racing in the street and decidely less meaningful as a result.

Dancing in the dark is actually written about the process, being asked to write a hit single

tracks?

I knew there was an NME-style music snob lurking under there somewhere! :-D

Although i share his irritation.

I have always seen the album as the thing he had to do to apologise for nebraska. Imagine the record company, waiting for the big follow up to the river and being handed nebraska. They must have f**king hated him!

Still, we got nebraska...it was worth it :-)

Peter

Special about him.

In the same way that a joke is ruined if you have to keep pausing to explain things to the thickest person in the room.

There are moments on born in the usa where he isnt a million miles away from writing summer of 69......

Berni

are you to say they're wrong, you intellectual snob, you?

Peter
09-23-2014, 11:55 AM
It is a question of good and **** :-)

Adams is fine for adams. For springsteen it is a huge, huge failure.

Think of arsenal finishing tenth. Some clubs would be delighted with that but for us it would be appalling.

that Springsteen's art is 'better' than that?

The masses are entitled to have fun as well.
