if they have more pride than brains good for them.

If they vote no. Can we no longer hear anymore of this nonsense. Rule that no more referendums can take place for 500 years.

If they do vote yes. I hope then it's a full and proper split. There you go then run your country see you later.

At least that would mean them putting their money where their mouths have been for so long. It would make them less contemptible.

Not that it'll stop them blaming us for everything, of course.

You can see where they're coming from, they've got one Tory MP and very rarely have many more yet they are constantly subjected to government by them.

attention and money. Being safe Labour seats does them no good at all. The Tories ignore them and the Labour party takes them for granted and does the same. That is the stupidity of being a dyed-in-the-wool voter - it gives you no influence.

things that Labour did in the public sector with regards to giving people jobs for nothing.

Now that they've done that, we are starting to see the fruits of their efforts and the economy is now one of the fastest growing in Europe.

Labour should never be allowed in after they failed to manage the UK's unemployment figures and finances in a responsible manner.

If they'd done that, though, we'd have seen no recovery/a much slower recovery and when we did reach the same point our economy would be way behind a lot of western Europe.

Because the Tories took the initiative we will reap the rewards later. It was a necessary evil that could have been easier for everyone had Labour not messed things up quite so catastrophically.

long enough to sort out military, trident, and north sea gas.

it's too high a percentage that want out and in the long term will lead to trouble including potentailly of the sectarian kind. the yes campaign have already been accused of rough bullying tactics to anyone speaking out against independence.

the Scotch ought to be able to try out their left wing politics up there and see how it works out. this is after all the place where the left still believe that attlee and succesor governments were wrong to oppose communist russia after WW2. Personnaly, I think they would be more likely to end up like albania than norway but it's their choice.

The SNP have been cosying up to Murdoch for the last few years (due to the latter's desire to exact some electoral revenge on cameron) and it would be fun to see how that played itself out too

In the meantime the sensible scots who care about jobs etc can move south and I think we should auction off their place in the UK to any other former empire countries that want to join (subject to entry criteria; eg must be a carribean country called belize)

Another consequence would hopefully be resignations of cameron for having oversseen the break up of the union (he gave them the referendum in first place and stopped the third choice of greater devolution) and miliband (if the scotch thought he was electable they might not be so willing to break off).

wibble and the rest of the awimb lobster community is predicting the polls have it wrong (very small polling groups and internet based with no adjustments by pollsters as possibility as no previous referenda dat plus the silent majority will vote today). rocky the lobster is suggesting as high as a 60% no vot.

falling, GDP is rising, inflation is rising at a healthy rate, it means we can service the debt.

Had we gone with a more laid back approach we'd have nearly as much debt and less ability to service it, which in turn impacts the economy.

You should be able to see that economic experts have a more rosy view of the UK government than even the German economy. That should tell you what you need to know. And let me tell you, there's no way it'd have happened under Labour.

should be allowed to be independent

this is a great idea and should be extended at the local level.

Personally I dont like harrow council and nor do most of my neighbours - we are next to barnet and hertfordshire so may be we can auction our council tax contributions off to the highest bidder or go for UDI.

debt itself.

Looking at just the number is a very, very crude and simplistic way of doing things.

I know that's what Labour do, but that they really don't have anything else to attack.

Classic Jorge

The debt is rising against the gross domestic product, I'm sure we could look at other measures like gva if you want but it's pretty clear that the national debt is spinning out of control whilst our ability to service that debt is struggling to keep pace.

one time is not.

if they feel different and want to be independent I dont have an issue with that. but doing it because of current politics is not consistent with that

salmond strikes me as a bit of a livingstone -type. good at rhetoric in opposition but likely to be useless running things

I draw this conclusion on the flimsy evidence of the way anyone who disagrees with him is labelled as "interfering in the deomcartic process" (eg the military leadership) - had they been okay with independence he would have been trumpeting it up and down the heart of midlothian. or something
