image the media is pushing at me of everyone south of the Tweed being in a big froth about the independence question.

Most English people, it seems to me, are vaguely interested but not frightfully bothered. Obviously the political classes and the media are getting excited, but the rest of us just aren't as far as I can see. I wonder if the scotch realise this?

They like to make out they've been colonised by us, when in fact they came to us on their knees because they were skint. And, far from being an oppressed nation, they very enthusiastically took part in the creation and maintenance of the British empire. And, it's always worth pointing out, their 'uprisings' were largely crushed not by the English, but by their fellow scots.

All in all, it's a load of f**king cobblers.

The only place on earth I have been made to feel uncomfortable because of my nationality is in 'Schotland'. From a mere 10 or 12 visits, I have been insulted on the grounds of nationality 3 times.

f**k them and their manskirts.

the Dee in the hope you might hit a Welshman. Quite legally.

Chester's actually quite charming. One of those northern places where if you don't speak to anyone, you can almost convince yourself you're in civilisation.

They would have to and enforce border control. EU to non-EU and all that.
