What are people’s theories as to why Wenger would leave us so scandalously short in defence?

I mean, I think everyone accepts that he spends every waking hour thinking about the squad and his players. Was it just a massive oversight? Did he forget how many defenders he had? Or is there some broader thinking behind the decision?

Other than he rates Hayden and Bellerin but I think it's widely accepted we've had the weakest generation of youngsters for a long time, hence the defenestration of Brady.

I think the most likely theory would be that he thought he could get away with it, a sort of "f**k it, it'll be alright" thing.

The plan is probably to buy or get a loan in January if one of the kids can't step up and do a job for a few games ie Issac Hayden and Bellerin.

Nobody would be happy if we were to have spent our Alexis money on a back, no matter how good he was. And if he's not top, top quality then why not just give the shirt to an academy kiddy instead.

Whatever the reason, it seems a shame. Leaves a clear weakness in whst is otherwise a pretty strong squad.
