Right then AWIMB, we'd like your input into the qualities that make a good forum. Obviously we're only doing this to laugh in your face later when we dash your hopes and expectations, this isn't a democracy you know.
The current software is getting a bit rickety, to say the least. Patching it up can be quite a lot of work for Octogenarian+ So we'd like to know which features, you, the community of AWIMB think make a good forum.
Building a good forum/comments section isn't easy. Just look at the Guardian comments section. Berni may be able to explain how it works.
It probably hasn't escaped your notice, but the predominant style out there in the rest of the big wide world is now flatview. In flatview people don't bother with message titles, they just stick their message on the end of the thread. If they're replying to someone they quote some of the text.
The advantage to flatview is that it's far easier to get it to play nicely with a mobile phone. It's also far more widely supported if we decided to junk the current platform.
The disadvantage's are that it can be hard to follow who's replying to who, one-liners in the title become a thing of the past and you have to open the whole thread to view.
In general, flatview supports slightly more in depth conversations, while treeview with just text in the title works for snappy conversations.
So what are your priorities for a forum?
EDIT: Old Skool poll answers allowed, though don't say "ability to log in in Chrome" - that will be fixed.
