Surely it makes sense to concentrate on the more palatable, bitesize version when the other one is so epic you can work a whole working week watching one game.

I've never got cricket at all, it riles the ADHD in me.

On which basis, I applaud England for their noble stand against this foul carbuncle on the face of the world's greatest game.

Test cricket is the thing, j. The short game is no sort of a thing at all.

I mean, it's labyrinthine enough as it is. Surely a 90minute version would be a good thing. Condense it a bit, ban all the standing around, make people run. Simplify the sillier rules.

but it is just all so unsatisfying. Just like watching a penalty shoot out and not the game.

Fun to take part in, but no-one thinks it's proper football.

I had a lunch with some cricket people recently about a project and they were bemoaning the fact "nobody but the asians" play it any more.

Seems like it's dying on the vine a bit

To the untrained eye it does look a bit like they've removed some of the standing about bits and made it more easy to get a result.

Obviously, if it's just the tradition and stuff, I do understand that. It's especially important in this country, we like tradition and stuff.

Mind you, it's true. When they're not raping underage white girls, they do love a game of cricket.

It is incredibly hard to win a Test match, given the number of factors involved, that you can be completely on top but denied by a couple of batsmen playing out of your skin. A game can change so quickly. There is little build up to the drama in 50 overs and almost none at all in 2020. It's just wham bam thank you man stuff.

It also takes the beauty out of the game - it is all about big lads hitting the ball long rather than more skilful players trying to manipulate the ball through the field - surely you might appreciate that point :-)

They were saying they had it relatively good up here, especially compared to the larger cities.

I always thought it was a provincial game anyway.

It's like nobody does model airplanes any more, too much time invested and not enough action.

Not to mention the fact you need to book a holiday for every match.

I didnt want to ask all this at the time for fear of being outed but all the league matches you see taking place, do they do those over the course of a month or are they 2020 matches?

Or at least less irritating

wasn't long enough, really. The counties also play long form and 20/20 form one-day tournaments.
