You will certainly recall Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker announcing their retirements. Bobby Moore certainly retired from international football. Fairly sure both Brooking and Keegan did as well after the 1982 World Cup.

I would say he is an example of a less talented player who made the most of "gifts" as opposed to many better ones who have wasted theirs
