ALS Ice-bucket challenge inventor dies in freak accident
In a bizarre turn-of-events, Corey Griffin, the twenty-seven year-old inventor of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge died in a freak accident this weekend just as his idea has been sweeping the globe
He apparently died in a diving accident off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, only hours after raising over $100,000 at a fundraiser held that evening.
Griffin started the challenge after learning that his friend, Peter Frates had been diagnosed with ALS. In a post to his Facebook account, Frates remembered his friend. "Helping out was nothing new for Griff… he held his own event for me back in 2012, just a few months after diagnosis. He adds, "He worked his butt off these last few weeks for ALS. We texted everyday, planning and scheming ways to raise funds and plan events."
