The act is repressed, it doesn't come to consciousness, it remains unsymbolized and materializes itself in symptoms (see Monty's girl who disavowed the abuse because the realization of the true impact of the act is too horrifying to confront, but then the psychical deadlock is attempted to be worked through by banging a bunch of strangers). Obviously it isn't worked through at all but is a symptom which survives and bears witness to the repressed core structuring that type of behavior.
