loss of life, and the pictures that everyone has seen on their television screen are really heart-rending and everyone wants to see this stopped."

What the fúck has the pictures being on our TV screens got to do with anything? Are civilian deaths worse if we actually have to look at the gruesome reality?

The thought that our Prime Minister is genuinely influenced by the media's selective portrayal of what takes place in war is genuinely scary.

that the loss of life is a terrible thing (it is); and that we'd all rather prefer it to stop (we would).

What is it exactly to which you object?

countries. A proper war will always beat a bit of civil unrest like we see in Israel at present.

Nice of Dave to acknowledge it, though.

Did it ever occur to you that he might have been referring to the actual attacks/fatalities being stopped rather than the broadcasting of the images?

Expected more of you. Must do better

This is why journalists and PR companies operating in this arena are in some ways more powerful that politicians.

when all images of that kind can ever do is muddy one's perspective.

His message there is: 'I, too, am human and think deaded kiddies are A BAD THING.' That's all.

In fact, the quote you offer is a masterclass in saying precisely nothing, while making all the right noises as far as the electorate is concerned.

Of British Political opinion. Surely the paradigm prioritising the relativity of all truth will save us from such boorish absolutes as the horror of children being bombed?

Or is this the sort of thing that one is not permitted to mention, and someone like Mo will denounce it (incorrectly and without understanding the meaning) as 'Moral Relativism' (the political equivalent of zonal marking, apparently).

I doubt Harry Truman was particularly chuffed at having to make the decision to kill 400,000 Japanese civilians; but, y'know, he thought it was the right thing to do in the long run.

Have you seen the state of Libya and some of the surrounding areas recently?

Islamism and tribalism tend to fill in the vacuum.

He's not a lad down the pub going, "Whevs, bomb **** out of summink." I'm guessing he does a fair amount of thinking about stuff, as do the legions of civil servants, military types and ministers who advise him. That doesn't mean they're always going to be right, or able to predict the future, or even make uncompromised decisions.

It's just all a bit complicated.
