who to buy.

He did say earlier today that he needed to buy some wingers (or fullbacks or whatever you want to call 'em in his system). Cuadrado and Vidal are probably quite high on the list given the **** they have in midfield and on the wing backs. Hopefully they get neither :-)

His press conferences to date, those bits I have seen, have been mildly interesting.

Quite an open, honest man it appears.

Remember when people said it was more important to win a cup than get top four :hehe:

felt that qualifying for the Champions League was an exercise in futility given that a) we never win it and b) we never spend any of the money generated from being in it.

Of course, some of us pointed out that if, at some point in the future, the senile French **** was forced to actually spend some of it, it may be rather useful if we are in the competition that every top player in the world wants to play in.

What are you suggesting.

It was always the long term vision that we'd have to be frugal in the transfer market for a number of years until the sponsorship deals could be reviewed.

It was essential that we remained in the Champions League during that period and also that we kept a healthy excess of cash reserves - to cover the shortcomings in proceeds that a failure to finish top four would have caused.

that he has hitherto been reluctant to do, due to an all-consuming stubbornness that outweighs his desire to win trophies as a football manager.

he still chooses which players he likes and then others negotiate the amounts

internal pressure.

We can say with certainty that for a period the club's finances were limited to an extent that £30+ million signings were simply not feasible.

What we don't know is whether in more recent years it would have been possible to make those kind of signings. A lot of people seem to have assessed the accounts and come to conclusion that it would.

But even if this is the case, we still can't know for sure why we chose not to. Perhaps we simply couldn't find that level of player who wanted to sign for us at that time?
