is one more player ....a defensive midfielder , a player who can replace Arteta and is ''better'' then the flamster......suggestions:

- Khedira
- Pogba
- Vidal
- maybe Bender (the one from L'kusen)
- Nigel de Jong
- Carvalho

One of the above please Ivan and we are ready for the new season!!

genuine internationals (except for chambers)and therefore the transfer window has turned out very good imo......Sanchez will be phenomenal I expect him to score at least 20 and assist another 10-15......Giroud will love playing together with him.......:hehe:

Although Vidal and Pogba are so good i'd still be chuffed, would rather a Carvalho or Bender than Khedira.

Probably not a very popular choice all the same, not as glamourpuss as the likes of a Vidal or Pogba but perhaps more realistic.

For me, if we are going to do that , and compromise Ramsey then the player should be Ramsey's equal going forwards.
That's my issue with Khedira , I think Ramsey is better, Vidal and Pogba on the other hand.

I still think we would benefit more from an out and out holding midfielder when you look at how exposed we are against decent teams.

so I don't see any compromising at all. In fact giving him more responsibility is probable a bonus to the team. Unless you want to play 4-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1. As for Khedira not being as good can I just point out the European Champions League and World Cup-winning midfielder might bring something to the table that the Welsh bloke with half a good season behind him possibly doesn't

Easier to talk of a dm even if it doesnt relate to our game.

The real problem for us last year was that in the bigger games arteta couldnt cope without ramsey. Jack, rosicky et al just dont give him the same support and playing him with flamini leaves us very one-paced and static.

Diaby would help with that. The problem will be if we go into the bigger games again with ramsey and diaby unavailable. Quite likely unfortunately......

Teams started to target arteta in possession after the liverpool and chelsea games, spotting it as a weakness. He needs help in there.

I actually think if we go in with Ox and one wing Sanchez on the other both of whom will work their *******s off it is going to make a hell of a difference

but the expectation on him next season is going to be immense. I have faith in the lad but you know people will be on his back if he doesn't score 15 goals before Christmas

to try to win back possession and being defensively disciplined in terms of your positioning and dropping back when you need to and basically forgetting about attacking.

The former comes from a desire to attack. The latter comes from a desire to do what's best for your team at particular moments in a game.

The Ox is still lacking in the latter, but hat is perfectly natural at his age.

to get into good positions means he will always get chances. And a late-running midfielder is far harder to subdue than virtually any other kind of player on the pitch.

I'm not arguing that two box to box midfielders cannot possibly work, merely that someone quicker and stronger stepping into Arteta's role makes more sense to me, especially when you look at how exposed we get when we lose possession with our fullbacks so high up
Not every position needs to be interchangeable, Barcelona managed to play some decent stuff with Busquets in a holding role.

Flamini aside, the other midfielders are not so comfortable doing this. As they are greater athletes than arteta he ends up holding.

And its fine, most of the time. But away from home when we are being pushed he needs more help so the balance of the two is important.

The answer is for jack to develop this side of his game more and for ramsey and diaby to stay fit.

Or we buy someone.

but Khedira doesn't take the ball off the back four, it's his partner (Alonso or Modric and Schweinsteiger ) so it would probably be left to Ramsey (if he's fit).

or even that it won't work, everything you say is true.
Just my personal preference is for someone with the same defensive discipline Arteta showed last season to come in and let Ramsey carry on exactly as he is.
Maybe Khedira will come in and do that, then everyone's happy :-)
