has, but can't help but feel you'd be stopping him from doing everything he's good at.

This works because Diaby will take Jack's old position and Jack will share DM duties with Areta.

4th place here we come.

Read that this morning and it actually contradicts itself. Says Wenger halts search for DM as he plans to play Wilshere there and then goes on to say "well actually . he hasn't stop the search at all but, you know, it may be an option

him.

Powerful, young, great strike on him.

He's only 22 so will hold his value.

Sign him, Arsene!

Arsene Wenger is ready to give Jack Wilshere the chance to be Arsenal's main man in midfield next season.

The Gunners' boss believes ‎Wilshere has got huge potential to play the midfield anchorman role.

That is one area where Wenger had been looking to strengthen his squad this summer, but it now looks increasingly likely he will resist making another big signing in that department.

Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini filled the role last season and Wenger has been eyeing Sami Khedira of Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen's Lars Bender.

But unless a remarkable deal crops up, Wenger is now unlikely to sign another midfielder as he believes they have enough already - with Wilshere the choice to be groomed in a deeper-lying role.

England boss Roy Hodgson is also looking for a replacement for retired skipper Steven Gerrard in that area, and Wilshere is desperate to nail down a regular place for club and country.

Wenger now has a wealth of midfielders, with Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the fit-again Abou Diaby.

While they don't have a specialist holding player in that group, Wenger does not want to overload the department and has allowed youngster Tomas Eisfeld‎ to join Fulham ahead of the trip to New York to play Thierry Henry's Red Bulls in a friendly:

It would seem as if Arsenal - who do remain on the look-out for another striker - are largely concentrating on squad players now rather than more marquee signings after landing £32m Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.

They are set to complete the £3m signing of Nice's Colombia World Cup keeper David Ospina in the next few days which will give Wojciech Szczesny serious competition.

Arsenal are also interested in Chris Smalling in part exchange if Thomas Vermaelen goes to Manchester United, who are not keen on letting Phil Jones go‎ as part of any deal.

England international Smalling would be able to cover right-back and centre-back for the Gunners.

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid remain keen on two of Arsenal's Spaniards - full-back Nacho Monreal and midfielder Santi Cazorla.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are giving a trial to teenage Serbian midfielder Mladen Micanovic.

The 17-year-old, of FK Javor Ivanjica youngster, can also play in several defensive positions and is likely to train with the first team.

I remember John Bunnell saying Flamini was just a temporary fix and Coquelin would come back from a successful loan spell and be the holding mid for us :hehe:

It's like the only position where he doesn't major competition....seriously we can't drop Ozil for Wilshere.

Sad reality...he needs to step up massively to take one of the 3 attacking midfield berths....you would think those are reserved for Alexis, Ozil and Theo or play in the defensive midfield position.

Failing that it's bench time...

I'd also fear that his injury problems don't suit him playing that sort of role.

Not to say it couldn't happen, but it would need Wilshere to adjust his game a fair bit for it to work well.

I'd be sad if we couldn't find room for Jack. Some of the best Wengerball in the last couple of seasons has happened with him on the pitch.

This is, to be honest, a **** idea. I dont like it.

Teams targetted arteta last season after the anfield and stamford bridge games, and wil again. It is clear that a lack of pace and strength at the back of the midfield is a weakness, particularly if/when ramsey isnt playing.

It can be covered but not by playing jack there. I hope this isnt true.
