Cos that's all Ozzy's doing.

(My mum speaks fluent French (and my dad a bit) and we went on holidays to France every year. I did it at o-level. But when I first lived there on my own {93-4}, I realised I'd forgotten it all.)

In 2000, by which time I was pretty fluent,I was part of the crowd walking around Marigot, the capital of St Martin (French West Indies) celebrating the Euro 2000 triumph singing :

On est champions, on est champions, on est, on est, on est champions.

But by then, I sounded like a native.

A few years before, when I was living in Paris, I'd sing the PSG anti-Marseilles chant:

Marseillais va niquer ta mere
Sur la can
Sur la canebière
Marseillais encoulez
Marseillais encoulez

But I sounded like Ozil then.

But my frog mates appreciated the effort and knew that I was on the path to righteousness, which would see us all celebrate winning Euro 2000 and the Marseille scum selling their best player straight after. (St Bobby of Pires. To us.)

I've done the same in Hindi and Spanish. Not about footie, but same sort of thing. (Though never got to the levels of fluency I did with French.) And my Indian or Spanish mates appreciated me sticking my oar in, even though I sounded to them as Ozil does to us.

So I'm afraid I'm on Ozzy's side, despite never having won the world cup, let alone winning the Arse our first trophy in 9 years.

Not being anal or touchy (though I accept it could sound like that) but I won't mock immigrants for trying to learn the lingo and culture. I loved trying, even if I wasn't very good.
