The right to cease to exist at a moment and in a manner of our own choosing is surely the most fundamental of human rights (if you believe in that sort of nonsense, of course)?

I'm all for it, the situation at the moment is a mess though, it's almost as if people don't have a right to end their own life.

He also appeared to slightly inadvertently admit to having helped kill patients in the past by excessively upping their medicine doses.

The host seemed so shocked she barely knew what to do.

I would never put a person in a position where they had to help me kill myself. That's an absolutely selfish act, which they have to live with, when you're gone.

yourself.

And what if you couldn't actually, physically do it yourself?

Would you still not put someone in that position?

They hate it when patients dare to express an opinion.

and often get things entirely wrong.

So the two doctors required to sign off on someone's death may well not be making the right decision.

medicine can't do anything for the person. And with a cooling off period to ensure no spur of the moment stuff.

Doctors already help patients to die, as does the state, by not providing resources needed to keep people alive.

I'll die when I'm meant to die, and if that includes a bit/lot of suffering so be it.

those sort of decisions, though, does it? The fact that they may sometimes get it wrong isn't a valid reason not to do it at all.

So presumably you'd let yourself go to the bitter end even when given a morphine button to do yourself in with.

discussion between patient and a person of impeccable credentials with doctors in assistance?

However, I may change my mind if they substituted the morphine for a vat of vodka. Throw me in it, add some slices of lemon and I'd be good to go.

to the idea in principle.

I think people are concerned about the potential for exploitation, for example from family members for whom an ill relative may be a financial burden and may be susceptible to being pushed into taking one for the team.

The possibility of abuse does not invalidate the idea.
