proper money.

Imagine how frustrating it would be if we'd dropped out of the CL and had all this money swishing around but no top, top, top, top players wanting to join us.

That's what happens when you've got money to burn but spend it on mediocre players :-)

that the club took the wrong direction & indeed Mr David Dein warned them of this. With all the wealthy owners coming into the game & our honourable but flawed stance of "keeping it in the family" & being self-sufficient was never going to work when it came to competing at the very top. And at the end of the day the club sold out to a yank tight arse anyhow.
Also, I still think our wonderful manager missed a huge opportunity last summer to put in place a couple of players who WOULD have won us the title last season. It will be the last chance he ever gets like that I guarantee it.

and therefore your constant bleating about us not even trying to compete was utterly without merit and in fact the opposite of what we were trying to do during the financially restricted years, i.e. sustain our CL position so as to be in a prime position to capitalise once more funds were available.

And as you didnt specify a time limit (quite rightly) i dont really see how you can claim to be right, as such.

Thing is, this argument goes back about six years :hehe:

I think if you are being honest a part of you is uncomfortable with these developments. What you really wanted was for wenger to nick a title without spending money.

I think you are also irritated that the 'spendsomef**kingmoney' brigade are getting what they want and are happy. You hate that :hehe:

Anyone can do that!

After years of criticising him for not doing precisely that :hehe:

Monty91

was essentially: "Even as a layperson, looking at our revenue and the potential for it to grow, it seems logical to assume that at some point soon we're gonna be able to spend more money, so in the meantime why not be patient rather than adding to the weight of pressure being imposed on Wenger by the media and thick fans?"

So I think it's fair to say that yes, I was right.

And asking why wenger would risk his reputation as a coach by covering for a board who were being less than honest with us about pur financial position?

I never for a moment even considerded that we had money but wouldn't spend it. Can i assume i was right?

Monty91

to buy the level of players we are now. So I still do not believe Wenger was covering for the board.

For a good few years we were arguably a couple of 10 million buys away from having a strong enough squad. The margins were far, far smaller than you are now making out.

Despite the gloss it was obvious the budget was pretty tight and in some years we only broke even thanks to the transfer fee surplus we created.
