Zidane is an entirely different case, really not sure of the relevance of bringing him up here. Presumably you think Podolski played as left back if you think Özil played on the left of three for most of the season

When Podolski started last season, Ozil played on the right.

I concede that Wenger may start him centrally in the future, but he almost always plays new arrivals out wide to allow them to acclimatise and to 'breath' when they eventually move central (playing out wide effectively halves the space you have to play in)
