View Full Version : Here's a good one! The BFI will now insist on films having gay, female and ethnic minority

characters in any film which requests funding. So my film about an inveterate male white womaniser who becomes a recluse will never get made now.

Or I could turn him into a black lesbian I suppose.

"characters positively reflecting diversity, at least 30% of supporting and background characters positively reflecting diversity".

Which hardly seems a radical request when asking for public money!

for support to be given to anything with artistic merit whatever the politics, gender politics, etc etc of it.

When asking for public money you have to consider what the public wants as well, not just what you think it would want.

But I suspect any attempts at a serious discussion with you are futile, you define yourself solely by one thing and anything which you feel threatens your belief (however illusory this threat might be) is anathema.

One of the reasons why Djokovic comes across as a good bloke is because he's gracious both in victory and defeat.

He also donated his Rome Masters title winnings to victims of flood relief in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia.

...On the substantive point, I suspect that the BFI takes the view that public money should be spent in ways that represent the public. If you wish to make a film, play or opera on white male sun readers then you can do so with your own money. I hardly think its fascistic to demand a degree of representative transparency.

As for the question about art and artistic merit you ought perhaps to think about what it means, before you jump in two feet flying like Richard Littejohn with a muddleheaded rant.

your nick, just so no-one can forget it.

I know what art and artistic is, in fact I made a tidy living from it. Foe me it's not just a pose. How about you?

No. I don't believe it is the government's role to tax people and then spend the money educating them on what they should do in the bedroom. To have freedom of sexual expr4ession is one thing but to force one particular way of life down everyone's throats is another.

...and defining gay men by what they may or may not do in the bedroom. I find it hard to believe than anyone with such arcane opinions and ad hominom responses to arguments could make a tidy living from art. Neverthelss, if you say so.

On the last point, words fail me. In what way is representing diversity, forcing someone else's sexuality down people's throats? Diversity covers a huge range of things, yet you continue to interpret this as some kind of homosexual fascism! I don't think you have a clue what the word means. For the record, I have never said anything hostile about your sexuality, yet you seem to think it's OK to make rather juvenile comments about mine.

Do you have a real problem with homosexuals? Or are you fighting the fact that you may be gay yourself. Most homophobes harbour that fear you know, it's as old as time...
