:-( why must we always be content with imagining?

or could even reduce them.

The excitement football fans experience when their club makes new signings is massively, massively disproportionate to the chances of said signings making any kind of significant change to the club's fortunes.

How far off the 97% are we today?

Look at arguably our best ever signings - Bergkamp and Henry. Even they took 3 years each before we won the league.

What player in the world could we possibly buy that could have as big an impact as Aaron Ramsey?

Maybe the Ox will do the same next season or maybe it will be Jack. Why would it be a new signing who doesn't even know the club?

Even so, could you show me your workings on the 3% calculation?

'Statement of intent'. 'Sending a Message'. :shudder:

does something vaguely competent the fans act as if they've just invented the Cruyff turn?

This is what is known as "over-compensating".

who lack the intelligence to consider that what's really exciting at your football club is what's happening on the training pitch.

When we only signed Kim Källstrøm with a broken back

Is this as opposed to buying nobody or buying somebody else?

Pretty strange comment

He's earned them, after all.

I suppose it would be silly of me to suggest that they are not being signed purely to win the league this year?

Imagine if we'd signed someone last season who meant that Ramsey was nudged down the pecking order. That someone may well have been a far bigger, more established player than Ramsey. Yet how coudl they possibly have had a bigger impact than him (injury notwithstanding)?

Who is to say the same wouldn't happen with Sanchez and, say, Theo? Or Giroud? Or Sonogo even?

Of course, this doesn't mean I don't want us to sign them. They are, by all accounts, very good players. I am just trying to make the point that signings are not always the panacea people hope.

It is the existing players that are busy winning and losing you games.

They are only new players for one season though

Good comment though; it's not about killing beasts and vermin, it's about watching the dogs work.

The good ones settle in and strengthen your squad, the bad ones leave. At certsin points you are obliged to buy- we are at that point regarding a right back and a keeper this summer. The rest is a bit of a choice, we arguably dont need sanchez. But if wenger thinks he is better than what we have, so be it.

Say that a player is the best in the world, most couldn't say why. Everyone would understand his value if he happened to cost alot of money though.

Wives make use of this principle when clothes shopping in Monte Carlo with their teenaged daughters
