View Full Version : Luke Shaw would only cost about £10m if he were French.

Close to £35m for a half decent English left back who has potential and has really done nothing. Nuts.

18 - so can easily have 17 years or so at the very top of the game.

When you look at it like that - £2million a year for such a player, it doesn't seem so bad.

Or they can sell him in 5 years for pretty much all of what they bought him for.

It's alright if you can afford it, I suppose.

Ridiculous gamble at that price

English hype machine all over it. The same c**ts who put Gerrard in as one of the best footballers of our generation and best CM of last season.

No-one knows how promising young players will develop. Jack Wilshere was as hot a prospect as Shaw a few years ago, but isn't even considered good enough for the England first team now. Damnation indeed.

A lot of english players have never pushed on from being good to great.

Or perhaps he is Louis van Gaal, looking for a discount. Shrood

Huge gamble at that cost

for this midfielder they've just signed. Their first two signings tell me he isn't identifying the players.

be the world's best left back then this would be a huge gamble. If Richard Branson bet my mortgage on the same outcome it is less of a gamble.

The fact of the matter here is that United will always have a monstrous amount of spending power - the most in this country with FFP now in force. To them it is not as much of a gamble as it would be us because if they lost £20million on him it doesn't really matter.

identifying players basically means watching Match of the Day.

genine *market* rate of that player. See also the salary of Wayne Rooney. Fine player, but £300kpw? Who else would pay that?

Market distortions work the other way too, as per the reduced sale of Fabregas to Barcelona, as the player wouldn't go elsewhere, and the seller was a big softy.

and there is no way on Earth I could tell you if he'll make it to the very top, he looks good and a great prospect but that's it

chap (uncapped i might add). I'd say it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they paid close to that for Shaw.

*So they say, i've never seen him play.

Which would you be more willing to spend on?

f**k me if you can get 30m for a promising left back we should be selling Gibbs tomorrow.
