England play with four attacking players (Wellbeck, Rooney, Sterling and Sturridge), in order to do this without shipping goals is to play to defensively minded center midfielders. Wilshere is not that. Henderson is.

Couple this together with the fact that Henderson and Gerrard were absolutely outstanding for the majority of last season should explain all.

Wilshere is not good enough to change the entire team ehtos for. Plus he's not fully fit anyway.

We need to remove the rose-tinted specticles. If Wilshere played for Chelsea they'd be having this conversation, but they're not.

He needs someone athletic next to him, who covers alot of ground.
Ideally you want someone like this who can tackle and also play, like Ramires or Khedira.
We seemingly only have Henderson.

You need 1 and others need to be made aware of wehat is required of them... you seem to think defense and attack are not interlinked and players can only do 1 or the other, that isn't the case.

we didn't get battered. It was actually the opposite, where we would have most of the ball in those game but not take our chances (the 8-2 not included of course).

every time I've seen him play for England in limited overs he's just cannon fodder, plonks it on a line and length and gets wacked.

A back four including Johnson and Jagielka (sorry PSRB) needs a fair amount of protection against the best in the world.

We are fortunate to have three very good defenders that would walk into the England team in Per, Koscielney and Sagna.
