with the new Silvestre, presumably valued at around £10 million this time?

but Vermaelen is agitating for a move (understandably).

Did Gallas? Or was he just a disaster for all the other reasons?

done anything, it's just a story in the paper at the minute. Vieira's agents met with Madrid the summer before the one he left.

because of the preponderance of 'Vieira to Man U/Real/Juventus' stories that appeared as soon as the clocks went forward.

and what may be on the table.

The widely accepted fact is we sold Paddy against his will.

when we were being offered £50 million for him just when our financial constraints of the new stadium were starting to take hold?

Monty91

The big question is whether we should have cashed in a year earlier when Barca and Real were both said to be offering £50m.

UK. I'm surprised you don't know this if you're writing a book about it all.

Or are we writing the book for you right here?

domestic crisis in a gentlemanly way. Not exactly mutual, just dignified.

I thought the then Arsenal manager (Graham? Rioch?)convinced Tony to stay at Arsenal.

all of the stories at the time were about him signing a new contract after the CL final partly because he didn't want to uproot his family.

was probably going to stay. Then i'm sure i remember reading that David Dein being sacked and Wenger only having 1 year left on his contract made Henry have a rethink and he asked to leave. Also seem to remember him splitting with his wife around that time.

What with refs tending to blow when the keeper kicks the ball (this might not happen as much anymore I must admit)

So not much of the family motivation for being here, rather the opposite.

Good judgement there imo.

there is no mention at all of him being compelled to leave the UK, only that he may have signed the new contract aftert the CL final because he didn't want to leave his kid.

"Lots of things have changed recently and I had to get away from everything English, including my wife unfortunately," Thierry Henry after his move from Arsenal to Barcelona
