Chelsea KO Fabregas deal and move in on Real Madrid ace Luka Modric
CHELSEA have ended their interest in Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas and turned their attentions to Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

The club were in negotiations to sign the former Arsenal man but the proposed deal to take the Spanish international to Stamford Bridge hit a major stumbling block earlier this week due to a clause his contract.

When Arsenal agreed to sell Fabregas to Barca back in 2011 they placed in a clause in his contract which meant that if the Catalan club sold Fabregas for a fee over £26m they would be entitled to 50% of any profit they made on the midfielder.

This clause has put off Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and the Russian has ordered Jose Mourinho to find an alternative option.

Abramovich is reluctant to honour the clause as he does not want to directly fund a title rival.

And now according to reports in Spain, Jose Mourinho has turned his attention on to Croatian midfielder Luka Modric.

The reports in claim the former Real boss is willing to offer the European champions £10m and Brazilian midfielder Ramires to secure Modric's services.

According to the reports, Chelsea officials have flown out to Madrid to discuss a possible swap deal.

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to sign Ramires and has been chasing for several months.

But the former Blues boss is keen to hold on-to Modric who played an integral part in Madrid's Champions League triumph over city rival Atletico last month, but he could be tempted to let the former Tottenham man leave for £20m.

According to sources in Italy he is a beautiful mandarin duck.

And besides they've just had some new pancakes.

cut. They are not a party to any contract between Arsenal and Barcelona so not honouring the clause is simply impossible even for Abramovich and Putin's club.

If it is 50% of profit, even if they sold him for £40m, we'd still only pick up £5m.
