View Full Version : Giroud: looking at his 22 goals + the 8-9 he scored in pre-season on the official site>>

If Suarez or RVP had scored half of these (including a few bycicle kicks, back heels, volleys), we would not hear the end of it.

Wen you add his assists, we actually have quite a special CF on our hands. Expect 30+ goals next year.

We need more movement around him (see France recently) and cover for potential fatigue and injury. We do not need to replace him, unless it is with a Suarez--certainly not with Benzema, whom Deschamps just moved to the left to make sure Olivier plays...

especially against the better teams in Europe or the PL he misses the x-factor of Suarez, RVP,Henry,Zlatan etc. ....and that's the kind of quality in forwards Arsenal should be looking at this summer

talk about getting a better striker it's more about Giroud not looking like scoring in the big games against the better defenders than it is anything else.

He must have played the most games out of all of our outfield players.

So his scoring rate is hardly imposing.

That and his complete lack of awareness about playing to the whistle which is quite stunning ineptness in a professional footballer. Good all round player, but the assertion that he is the best we can do is getting a bit tired from the Montster

up. I'd have him and Remy for the price (or a lot less) of a Cavani or particularly Benzema

the main reason fans are so utterly appalling at judging a players potential, is because we don't see them in training.

lying when he said that about Park, or does training actually mean f**k all in terms of how a player performs?

But I think Giroud has the potential to go up a notch or two and become the level of striker people would like us to sign. Of course, if we could sign Suarez then that's another matter.

As for back up, I'm not entirely convinced it's necessary with Walcott and Sanogo around and I suspect we'll see Ozil up top at some point.

has been first-choice in his position for the best part of two seasons. Adel Taraabt was simply tewiffic in training, best player ever in training. I think having seem him play for several years at QPR it is safe to say he is rarely going to be the best player on the pitch in a Premiership match

Luis Anaconda
06-10-2014, 03:21 PM
that to me suggests he hasn't quite got it. The stopping when he thinks he's offside thing really does bug - the natural striker's instinct is to assume he is always onside surely. And I admire you sticking to your guns on the whole Özil up front thing - although if Poldi sticks around it might just work :rubchin:

club like Arsenal.

As I said in the post you mocked me for, I suspect we will see him knocking in more goals like the France volley for us next season.

In fact I would say that if he doesn't, then you are right and we DO need a better striker.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

But. I'm not convinced that he is the striker who, three times a season, will score you a goal from nothing and gain you an extra 5 points.

That's the difference with the truly top strikers.

I feel this point is important & should not be overlooked. Now I'm not saying I'd be bum him or be bummed by him but I'd love to see in action if you know what I mean, I wager he's a glorious sight in the bedroom.

In fact Ollie if you're reading & I know you do, I know a lovely hooker that would let us double team her, my treat but we'll have to sort it for after Newcastle or Sunderland away eh? As don't want you to get in bother again. :hehe:

there comes a point when the development arc of one of the most important roles in the story needs to peak if we are going to win the league?

I know we were spoiled with Thierry, but when you have a player of that quality you don't have to wait years until he's the finished article. Ollie's not exactly a spring chicken.

as squad options or to play with OG (in a theoretical starting 11)?

Monty91
06-10-2014, 04:04 PM
Did we sign either of them? Do you think Wenger would have allowed us to enter a season desperately in need of another striker? (that's rhetorical, by the way)

Monty91
06-10-2014, 04:06 PM
and if you agree (do you?) then that makes your question redundant.

As I said, if we signed a Suarez-level striker then I would be as happy as anyone.

filling perceived 'quotas' for every position.

If you want a Higuain and then an Ozil becomes available, even if it would be quite handy having another decent striker around the place, sometimes you just chuck the money at the better player, irrespective of their position.

In fact I think that's basically what happened last summer. It's not like we were short of good midfielders, was it?

redgunamo

Even though I feel that his fee must properly be divided up between Ramsey (all his goals make him essentially a new player) and Flamini too.

As for strikers, I will simply point out that the three teams above us have more and better ones than we do; whereas the three below us do not.

Monty91
06-10-2014, 04:38 PM
Funny how Dzeko is now talked of as back up when he was their star signing when they bought him. That's how City roll, I guess.

Then again, you could say the same about us and Wilshere! Spot the key difference though

More strikers? Maybe one, I'll grant you. But are we *really* quibbling about possibly having one too few players in a single position? Unless of course you think we need two or three more?

How many strikers do we need? I guess that's a dangerous question to ask a fetishist like you.

redgunamo

Personally, as I think I've mentioned before, I suspect a switched on Bendtner could've done the job too. If only Olivier hadn't been so damned good and fit all season.

Let us also not forget that we* only started talking about £40 million+ strikers when the club did.

*Apart from me; I always do.
