If Cesc is indeed coming back to England then I can only see it at Arsenal. Let me show my workings.

1. Arsenal have a first option on Cesc.

2. Cesc knows and supposedly loves Arsenal.

3. Cesc's mentor is Arsene Wenger. Arsene Wenger has just signed for three more years.

4. Cesc would not want to play for any other team (other than Barca).

5. Cesc must not be allowed to join a rival. We want the title and he can help us and harm others.

If he goes to City I have planned something terrible. I am ashamed that I am going to do it but it is a necessary evil. I will be a hero amongst Arsenal fans on the day I am incarcerated for it.

We don't really need him (would be great for squad depth, can never have enough world class players etc.), but as you say in your fifth point, for him to join a rival would be a huge blow to our title hopes.

He's been horribly misused at Barca, and might just relish the chance to show that he is indeed one of the greatest players in the world again.
