At the time he was a popular and valid choice.

Things have changed and if a new skipper was to be picked I think the BFG would be a popular and valid choice. I certainly think he's got ze personality for it

and should never have been imo.

and will struggle to captain us whilst playing for Real Betis or whichever club at his level he ends up playing for next season.
