Murakami appeals to pretentious 18 year-olds with no grasp on what constitutes proper literature.

been nominated for an award or not.

Fine, he's a decent entry-level read for someone who is looking to get into 'serious works of literature', in much the same way as if you were to rate the potency of drugs and someone proclaimed marijuana to be the pinnacle of euphoria. It's a decent gateway, sure, but not the apex of drug-induced states of minds.

He doesn't belong to the tier of the likes of Kafka, Beckett, Balzac, Proust, Goethe, Faulkner, Joyce etc i.e. serious literature.

often leaves a lot to be desired. Rowling, like Blyton in her time, gets kids to read. Isn't that great?

Doesn't make it equal to Bach, Mozart, or Tchaikovsky
