View Full Version : Is it too old to join a band? I am nearly 32

Never did the band stuff when I was younger. There were 3 of us all playing guitars and I always always much better so the band idea went

I am not that good. But I could be good enough. maybe I will go look at the notice board down Denmark street.

It's a bit like a midlife crisis but early.

a good friend of mine is in a band that plays covers. Sort of Zepplin, Floyd and a lot of classic rock...Boston etc.

Its only a part time/weekend thing as he has a full time job but they get invited all over Europe to beer festivals, celebrations and have a great time. They also can make upto 2 grand a night. His biggest audience was 5000 in Germany. They loved it.

Don't forget to not tell them that you are looking to emigrate at the first opportunity. They'll love you when the band's been paying £50pw on rehearsals for six months getting it all tight then BOOM the guitarist fùcks off.

Can you play rhythm guitar btw? Like, in time and stuff. Or are you one of those lead only look-at-me stepover fancy-dan can't be bothered to listen to anyone else and hit the note at the same time as them types? As you might have gathered, I have views about this. :-)

with. I think I can play rhythm. But actually loads of peoples timing is rather off but they don't realise this. So I am playing with metronome now.

It's all new to me. I remember when my mates used to just jam but it never sounded right.

playing, and not just to yourself. I think finding some people to jam with would be best for you. The whole band-rehearsing-gigging cycle can be quite a commitment in time and money.

I once put an ad in for a guitarist to play Pixies covers and met this Kiwi bloke who'd come round for an hour or two and we'd play Pixies stuff and jam a bit. It was good fun and no hassle. We even ended up writing and recording a couple of songs.

People like you who join bands for the reasons you mentioned, and people who like playing music.

There's nothing wrong with your list of course, but the other reason is still valid - alien though it might seem to you.

and found the combination more interesting than football for many years. If you only like the first two than that's your business.

Alien Sex Fiend, IIRC, were like many gothy-type bands whose name and image were better than their music. Flesh for Lulu were my favourites from that scene in that era.
