Any ideas how I'm supposed to prove this particular negative?

Perhaps you are getting married?

The last one I went to was in 1989. It reeked of horse**** and frying onions.

If you are, the parish priest of the church where you were baptised will be able to certify this, since the Church requires any marriage conducted anywhere to be registered back to that entry in their books.

As I recall I also had to have my parents write a letter - PM me an email address if you're in need and I will see if I can find the text.

Depending on why you need this?

I'm still feeling that absence of evidence does not constitute evidence of absence, but still.
