only 3 teams go through and Hull are one of them by virtue of making it to the FA Cup final

that leaves two league spots, and if things stay the way they are that's one for Everton and one for the spuds

if I was utd I'd be doing the same, and using the extra breathing space to mount a league challenge just like liverpool did this year - 43 competitive games for them vs 56 for us, it makes a huge difference

that Giggs (and the others) would sacrifice this opportunity given the enormous outpouring of public support from fans and media that would have come if he had won every game.
There would have been huge pressure on the board to give him the job.
Besides which is there anything to stop teams sending reserve/youth teams out in the Europa?
You'd still get the money/gates from the group stages and it wouldn't impact on anything.
