View Full Version : The computers at work have not been working all day. It's f**king boring.

My girlfriend mentions i'm good with computers to her friends and then i get given a piece of ****e with Windows 8 on to fix.

It's reminded me why i'm a Mac snob and proud :hehe:

The only admissible excuse for using one is in the workplace.

I don't really understand your point.

I am saying that to double the saving time is well worth it because your machine will bring you far more joy and cause you far less problems.

Hardly a different world, mate.

I mean, £500 is still pretty close to the average cost of a decent PC and I'm sure you could pick up a decent second hand/recon mac for that amount.

I'd still rather have a second hand/recon mac than a new PC, I'd also be prepared to lay money on it lasting you longer too.

£500 is a f**kload to be spending on some consumer electronics, but probably justifiable. £1k, less so. And doubling the time to save up isn't really "waiting a bit longer".

..They are also not without faults. I have just had to replace the charger for my Macbook Pro of only 18 months, because the wire split. £65.00 for something which should not have to be replaced is scandalous imo!

it will take 1 year.

I am just saying that it's better to wait that 1 week/1 year and get something much better, that's all.

I'll take the better specs, eaier to upgrade, albeit slightly more temperamental PC any day. Plus, gaming on Macs is a pain unless you dualboot. Or something.

Also, as the components are all from the same place and designed to work together they're a lot less likely to give out.

Also, gaming on the mac works fine through steam for me. I very much doubt many people - at least ones with a life - need the big, water cooled and superclocked gaming rig.

Literally the only objection i see as valid that people can have for the mac is the one around the developer ecosystem and itunes etc. Even then, that's more of an ethical issue than a performance or quality one.

I find it objectionable that Apple make that more difficult than it needs to be. It's as much a point of principle as anything.

Isn't the Steam Mac catalogue quite limited?

I accept if you're a hobbyist tinkerer then the mac probably isnt for you but the majority of people use their machines as a tool to achieve other things, treating a computer as a vintage car in the garage is probably the furthest thing from your average user's idea of fun.

And despite loving playing games, I seldom find the time, so not quite sure that it should bother me even if it was an issue. :-/

could have gone for the normal won with much bigger drive.

But I wasn't prepared to spend £1700 for the next level up. £1300 was enough.
