At the moment our side is set up as a front man with five midfielders behind him and a back four with roving wing backs.

One consequence of this is that midfielders must perform defensive duties -- particularly against counter-attacking teams, during the transition, while our wing backs are often up the pitch.

I think this is why we've had balance problems in some important games this season. Whenever we include in the starting lineup midfielders who can't really defend -- Ozil, Podolski, and Santi come to mind -- we are forced to also include at least one of our enforcers -- Flam or Arteta. This in turn means that we have to sacrifice other creative players -- Jack, Ramsey, Ox, Theo.

I know we need a truly top-draw striker and at least one more utility back (more than that if Sagna goes). But to my mind, our most important target should be a defensive midfielder who can dribble. Because that players would cover what now effectively amounts to two starting spots, which in turn would let us field a tastily potent attack.

Yes, this kind of midfielder is rare. But we should be looking for him.

i and Lukaku to take some of the strain off Giroud.

I would obviously like a better striker than Lukaku but that is not going to happen.

The 4231 only works if you have the right players which most teams don't have.....the likes of Barca and Real have made it fashionable...now Bayern and City but they've all got some unbelievably gifted players in their squads.

If you don't have the right players I think it's pretty pointless playing it because you're not using the system to its max potential and other systems will just nullify you.

Just look at Wigan on Saturday....their 3 5 2 with inferior players nullified us because didn't have the right players to max out a 4231 and blast them out of Wembley.

Once we switched to a convention 442 they were completely bamboozled....the pace of Ox, the two strikers....the overlapping plays from
Gibbs had them rattled.

Not saying the 4231 is incorrect....just saying u need the right players and without the likes of Walcott, Ozil and to a lesser extent Ramsey whose now coming back we should be playing something else.

And I agree that if we don't sign a new defensive mid who can dribble and pick passes, we should be playing 442.
