View Full Version : I can't agree with modd moaning about Chelsea playing Anti-Football. For me they did exactly what

Pat Vegas

they needed to do last night.

Just because some styles are easier on the eye that others it doesn't mean that that style is the wrong style. Chelsea did their homework and won it fair and square. Could have been 4-0 last night.

Pre-Wenger we played very boring style at times. 1-nil to the arsenal and all that. I doubt people would call it Anti football.

it just doesn't fit the narrative that Mourinho is a defensive manager who always plays negative football. The anti-football jibe is a bit of a sad joke really. Having said that Mourinho is still a massive c**t who I would happily punched for his attention hogging running down the touchline *******s yesterday

from finding our football easy on the eye, I find it rather vain and pyrotechnical. Reminds me of a jazz musician that can deliver a complex scale at breakneck speed but couldn't come up with a decent melody to save his life.

got it right that many english teams think that only way to win it is to play anti football.

i can understand it in 1994 when we had a limited team and could not play attacking football to win cup winners cup

but when you have a team full of internationals from overseas and do it when you could win it playing good football then i find that depressing as someone to watch

More than anything though, Mourinho's teams are characterised by a pervasive cynicism, which will basically employ any tactic that is expedient at that point. In this sense he's very much like sralxfrgsn, it's not that there isn't a philosophy or ethos, it's just that the ethos is to win at all costs.

Great if you admire that sort of thing, not really to my taste though

but look i admit anti football is sucessful. united parked the bus vs barca over two legs in 2008 in semi and won

chelsea park the bus vs bayern and barca in 2012 and won.

so did liverpool vs chelsea in semi in 2005 and in second leg in juventus in quater final of 2005

its effective and wins trophies buts its not enjoyable to watch

inter in 2010, chelsea in 2012, man united in 2008 , liverpool in 2005, porto in 2004

its easier to win the whole thing playing dull power football then to play open attactive football.

the two leg system suits powerful fuctional teams who play on counter attack then the teams who go all out attack from the off

unless your a exceptional team like millan team of early 1990s or barcelona team of the 00s, the functional powerful football wins through in this tournament
