View Full Version : The other day, I was visiting someone on business and left my car in the car park.

The chap said I needed to have a permit in my window or the over-zealous car park people might clamp me. So he got me to give my key to one of his minions to pop the permit in my windscreen. Fair enough.

But, when I left, I realised that the bloke had not just done this, he'd also MOVED. MY. CAR. :shout: He'd got into my car and moved it without my permission to a more advantageous position. :furious:

I felt angry and violated. Surely it's never acceptable to move another man's vehicle without his permission? Surely?

A Gentleman will always expect a Valet to perform such a service.

It is expected, for example, that when a bigwig goes for a meeting at a dealership, he will leave his keys at reception so that flunkies can give his car a good clean while he's there.

There's no emotional attachment to cars when you're in the trade, I suppose.

This was never part of the deal as far as I was concerned.

Or (more realistically) a half-eaten sandwich.

A man's vehicle is his inner sanctum. You shouldn't just barge in there. It just felt like a terrible intrusion.

IF handing your keys was a one-off, then yes, I believe you have the right to be offended.

animal porn and mouldy sandwiches, that is entirely my matter and of no concern to the flunky who is moving it.

I've checked into hotels and seen the doorman visibly flinch as he climbs into the hellhole of fag ash and discarded water bottles. Still, that's his job. I feel no shame.

You're probably right. :-(

Although I've stopped caring what hotel chambermaids see when they come into my room, so I'm getting better.

You've built it up now. You're gonna have to lie if you just meant your dirty boxers on the floor.
