Your kid can and will **** anywhere and everywhere for the first few years, proximity to the bathroom is not an issue in the slightest.
It ****s, you change its nappy irrespective of where you are in the house or not, it ****s again and the cycle continues.
It's when it ****s in the car is your bigger issue, the bounce, the potential spillage.

(them, not you), first yr or so not much unless the mess is so bad you want to stick them in the bath first thing

and old enough to come to your room in the middle of the night and tell you they need the loo, but not old enough to go on their own.
