I'm finding it genuinely shocking how little people seem to care about this stuff, city have carried on where chelsea left off, just in a bigger and more vulgar way.

Setting aside the effect they have had on us as a club, the effects they have had on football in general is awful, that trickle down of wage inflation will send tens of clubs to the wall, mark my words.

If City want to spend millions upon millions in a very aggressive project to try and become a succesful football club then good luck to them, does not bother me one jot.

Not sure what you mean about the effect they have had on us as a club, we've done quite nicely out of them. The players we sold them in general were players that supporters were only too happy to see the back of and for which they over remunerated us on occasion.

Good team, some lovely footballers. Wd City.

I recall them being the better side at City's place earlier in the season.

Monty is correct, they do have a lot to do but equally so do the other 2 likely winners. Given that Liverpool have the chance to dent both other sides, at home, they're suddenly looking quite possible winners.

Staggering.

03-31-2014, 03:38 PM
And as for the players you are making assumptions to some degree.

What I mean is you don’t know if we genuinely were in for the likes of Jovetic, yes there was months of media suggestions and people getting excited on social media but we both know that the majority of such stories can be totally disregarded as fabrication.

If we were truly in the market for all the players the media link to us then we have been blown out of the water by lots of clubs and not just City

redgunamo
03-31-2014, 03:39 PM
So, essentially you're agreeing that there's no difference between lots of poor people paying for your football club's success, and one rich bloke doing it.

Monty91

model does not require any planning or imagination or anything other than simply buying at least two of the best players in the world in every position and if one or two or three of them doesn't work out buying another one.

There is no value in winning like this that, as a SUPPORTER, I could gain any satisfaction from.

You just appear to be basing a lot of your argument on pure assumption such as assumption that we were gazumped by City for certain players, or a tenuous assumption that their behaviour affected our business model by forcing wage inflation on us.

The biggest impact on Arsenal Football Club in the past decade has been the voluntary stadium move, not the emergence of City.

As I mentioned at the outset, I couldn’t care less about the expenditure of other clubs or how they finance it. That is their call. Similarly I don’t place us on a pedestal on the basis of our self-sustainability, that is simply how we choose to run our business.

I think in general City have been good for the Premiership, a new force to rival the establish trio. If they win the league this season not for one second will I think they have bought it, simply that they deserved it.

From their point of view, it must look like the big clubs have been carving up the game for their own benefit for many decades.

We ourselves have also had owners and directors in the past who have seen fit to pump money in to help us win trophies. And importantly, they could afford to do so, unlike those at most other clubs.

Inflation within the game is not Manchester City's fault.

Monty91
03-31-2014, 04:29 PM
and still guarantee winning the league.

We need to strategise, be inventive, find the correct squad balance, stick to a wage structure, treat footballers like humans (including letting them leave if they want to), and all that other stuff that creates good old fashioned job satisfaction.

I find it fascinating that the more financially doped clubs there are, the fewer guarantees there are too. There are going to be some very wealthy and ambitious clubs who are going to go to bed "hungry" each and every season. We are in that mix and it's fantastic, imo.

Or we could all go and support Bayern..

then they'll probably get rid of him, because why wouldn't you when your wealth renders every manager expendable and 'strategy' an unnecessary incumbency? Why not just go out and get someone else who can spend your money untarnished by failure?

Why do Arsenal keep Wenger? Because they know he has the required skills to operate under significant limitations and get the very maximum from his resources (whether in times of austerity or otherwise)
