The "Never Walk Alone" bit is tiresome, as is their penchant for minutes of silence. They do seem to have nicked a few trophies out of nowhere, like the Big Ear Cup in aught-five. And then wormed their way in the next season.

But they've been knocked out of the Champs League and this season is the first time they have really challenged for the title in a long long time. Their supporters have remained pretty loyal.

I'm not saying it's wrong, just that I don't understand it from my far away view. I don't know many "true" supporters. The closest is an ex-pat Irish from Dublin. The rest are Septics such as myself. So I know I'm missing something!

My best guess is that those who were around in the 70's and 80's became very sick of them winning stuff and being "England's team" in Europe, then having to be somehow held accountable for their own supporters and their poor behaviour.
