I have a vivid memory of getting off a tube train at one of those above-ground terminus stations, on a beautiful spring day in 1948, and strolling down towards the airfield (North Weald, obviously) where I flew Meteors.

I've wondered foe years where this took place, and now I know. Hurrah for your present penchant for picaresque peripateticism!
